Joseph E. Ironside, age 81, of Millsboro, formerly of Newark, passed away Friday, November 26, 2010 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Friday.

Joe was born in Kennett Square, PA, son of the late Joseph and Emilie (Buffington) Ironside.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He then served in the Air National Guard for 26 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. After his service with the Air Force and Air National Guard, he worked as a Supervisor of Air Craft Maintenance.

Joe was a long time member of the American Legion Post #28 of Oak Orchard, where he served as Finance Officer and was a member of the Honor Guard. He was a volunteer in the Beebe Medical Center Cardiac Unit, he served on the Board of Directors for the Oak Orchard Boys and Girls Club and was a great person.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Marie (Klair) Ironside; two brothers, Don Ironside of Odessa, James Ironside of West Grove, PA; three sisters, Peggy Holcomb and Evelyn Schopfer, both of Kennett Square, PA and Emilie Reynolds of Newark.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 3rd at 09:00 a.m. at the American Legion Post #28, 31768 Legion Rd, Millsboro, De. 19966, followed by interment with military honors at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
